The relationship between China and Russia is based on the principles of "non-alliance, non-confrontation and non-targeting of third parties".

The new foreign minister, Qin Gang, in his first briefing with the media speaking of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, indicated "an invisible hand" that seems to support a protracted crisis. "It is a tragedy that could have been avoided: China chooses peace over war, dialogue over sanctions" and de-escalation over escalation". In recent days, China has presented its project for a stable peace both in the ongoing war in Ukraine and in international relations as a whole.
