Gilad Erdan, the Zionist regime's UN representative, sharply criticized Guterres, calling him morally corrupt because he does not support the regime. Earlier, Eli Cohen, Foreign Minister of the Zionist regime, attacked the UN Secretary General and said that Antonio Guterres supports the Hamas movement and his position is a disgrace to the UN. Guterres sent a letter to the President of the Security Council, invoking Article 99 of the UN Charter, given the scale of human losses in the Gaza Strip following the Zionist regime's attacks on the strip. Article 99 of the UN Charter, which has been used only 9 times in the history of the United Nations, states that the Secretary-General may inform the Security Council of any matter which, in his opinion, may threaten the maintenance of peace and international security. And this despite the fact that the United States, as a permanent member of the Security Council, vetoed the resolution proposed by the United Arab Emirates to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, despite the fact that the resolution received 13 votes in favor.

At a UN Security Council meeting on Friday evening local time, the resolution proposed by the United Arab Emirates was put to a vote, with 13 of the 15 Security Council members voting in favor, one council member voting against and the United Kingdom abstaining. To approve a resolution in the UN Security Council, at least 9 votes without objection (veto) of the five permanent members of this council, namely the United States, Great Britain, France, Russia and China, are required. Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority, said on this occasion: “American policies make the Zionist regime complicit in the crime of genocide and racial cleansing, as well as the crimes they commit in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Quds, and this policy has become a threat to peace and threatens international security and peace. He ended by saying, “This American decision, which defies the international community, will give Israel the green light to continue its aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”
