19 al-Shabaab terrorists were killed in airstrikes in Somalia
At least 19 members of the terrorist and takfir group al-Shabaab have been killed in airstrikes carried out by the Somali army in the areas of Central Shabelle and Galgadud.
The aerial operations against the terrorist group linked to the al-Qaeda network lasted for more than 24 hours in the villages of Run-Nirgod, Masagaway and El-Dher. Anadolu news agency has reported the news and added that the cars used by the terrorists were also destroyed.
The Ministry of Information of Somalia has said in a statement that, "The first operation that lasted for more than 24 hours took place in the village of Geed Ma'arke in Ruunirgood district, where 'Khawaarij' were preparing (to carry out sabotage) where more than 14 terrorists have been killed."
The second operation, according to the ministry, targeted a terrorist checkpoint, where at least five militants have been killed. Another operation targeted a terrorist camp, which also destroyed military vehicles.
It should be noted that, on August 3, about 37 people were killed in a gun attack believed to have been carried out by al-Shabaab militants on a popular beach in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu.
Since 2007, the al-Shabaab terrorist group has been fighting the Somali government and African Union peacekeeping forces. Al-Shabaab has stepped up its attacks since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced the launch of a "total all-out war" against the terrorist group.
