The government of Burundi has announced that 20 people, including women and small children, have been killed in an attack by a group of armed rebels in the west of the country. The statement issued by the government of Burundi said that the killing was carried out by the RED-Tabara rebels, who in their statement published on page X, said they had killed 10 government soldiers. The spokesperson of the Burundian government, Jerome Niyonzima, has said that the attack happened on Friday night in the village of Vugizo, which is near the border of the country and the Democratic Republic of Congo. 12 children and two pregnant women are among those killed in the attack. The Burundian government has described the attack as terrorist. This is the second attack within two weeks carried out by the rebels, who since September 2021, have continued to disrupt the government of Burundi. Since its creation in 2011, the RED-Tabara group, with almost a thousand members, has carried out several attacks in Burundi. This RED-Tabara group is recognized as the main armed gang fighting the government of President Evariste Ndayishimiye.
