2023, The Deadliest Year for Journalists
The annual report of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) stated that 75% of journalists killed worldwide last year were Palestinian. They died at the hands of the military of the Israeli Zionist regime.
"72 of the 99 journalists killed worldwide in 2023 were Palestinians covering the war in the Gaza Strip," said the CPJ report as quoted by Aljazeera recently. In this regard, PCJ Chair Jodie Ginsberg stated that the Gaza war was unprecedented in terms of threats to journalists. "International journalists cannot yet enter Gaza. They are not allowed to enter Gaza, except on highly controlled trips and under the supervision of the Israeli army," he said. In early February 2024, the Press Freedom Organization announced the number of journalists killed by the Israeli military during the war in Gaza, which had reached 85 people.
