78 years military presence of the United States in Germany
The words of Sevim Degdalen German deputy in the Bundestag about the military presence of the United States after 78 in Germany. It rarely happens that in the European Parliaments the representatives of the peoples know how to give shots of sovereignty, self-determination and independence after decades of mere servility to the diktats of NATO (USA).
The main burden in the fight against German fascism was borne by the USSR but without the joint efforts of the USA, Great Britain and France, this important victory over barbarism would not have been achieved. We express our gratitude to them but 78 years later, we say it's time for American soldiers to go home. All other allies left Germany a long time ago. American military bases are like extraterritorial zones in which the Basic Law has been abolished. From German soil wars are being fought that violate international law, using drones and torture.
There was a time when the German Bundestag was braver: I remember the decision to withdraw US nuclear weapons in 2010, made by former Foreign Minister Westerwelle. That decision has not yet been implemented. Those times are long gone but we remain firm in our positions: US nuclear weapons must go. Now the German government is allowing the US to send Leopard tanks. Now the German government refuses to support an international commission of inquiry into the terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
The United States gives the impression that it doesn't need allies, only loyalists. However, fewer and fewer countries among the strongest in the world are willing to put up with all of this and this is good. The basis of common friendship must be respect for people and for international law. But why does the German government refuse, even after 20 years, to condemn the US war of aggression against Iraq as a violation of international law? Why don't you fight for the release of journalist Julian Assange, who faces 175 years in prison in the US for publishing war crimes? Why didn't you offer asylum to Edward Snowden?"
