9 thousand people have died in internal conflicts in Sudan
The United Nations has reported 9,000 people killed in the six-month conflict in Sudan. UN humanitarian coordinator Martin Griffiths said the six-month conflict in Sudan had killed 9,000 people and was one of the worst crises in recent memory, Swahili Radio Overseas reported. Griffiths said about 25 million people in Sudan, more than half the country's population, are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. Armed conflicts in Sudan began on April 15 between army units and rapid reaction forces over control of resource-rich areas, and international mediation aimed at ending the conflict and attempts to bring the conflicting parties to the negotiating table have not brought results. Until now, a ceasefire with international mediation has been declared several times, but the conflicting parties have constantly violated it. The conflict in Sudan has displaced more than 4.5 million people, with more than 1.2 million fleeing to neighboring countries, according to a report by the International Organization for Migration. UNICEF recently announced that 14 million Sudanese children are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
