"France and Armenia maintain historic friendly relations, but relations in the defense sector have not reached the level of intensity of bilateral relations," the statement of the French Cabinet of Ministers states, clarifying that this is the first visit of a French minister to Armenia in history. "Le Figaro" informs that the consignment of French defensive weapons will be delivered to Armenia today. The armament includes three Thalès Ground Master (GM 200) radars, which will enable the detection of enemy aircraft at a distance of 250 kilometers, as well as night vision devices and binoculars. Armenia and France signed agreements on defense cooperation on October 23, 2023, during the visit of RA Defense Minister Suren Papikyan to France. It is also noted that the agreement signed between the parties on cooperation in the field of defense provides that the French army will organize 3 mountain combat training courses for Armenians this year.

On February 22-23, Sebastyan Lecornu, Minister of the Armed Forces of France, will pay a visit to Armenia. This is reported by lefigaro.fr. This will be the first visit of the head of the French military department to Armenia. At the same time, the main goal of the visit will be "strengthening of relations between the two states in defense matters". It was reported earlier that a contract was signed by Armenia for the acquisition of French radars. In addition, the countries are conducting a dialogue on the possibility of supplying Armenia with French artillery and missile systems.
