About 15 people have been killed in an attack against a church in Burkina Faso
About 15 people who were in a church have been killed in a village in Burkina Faso when armed men attacked the place of worship last Sunday.
Church officials say the violence in Essakane village was a "terrorist attack" that killed 12 people at the scene, while three others died later while being treated for their injuries. Abbot Jean-Pierre Sawadogo, the head priest of the Catholic Diocese of Dori, where the attack took place, said several people were injured in the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, however terrorist attacks carry out similar attacks against mosques and churches in Burkina Faso. The attack on Sunday happened in an area where armed groups have carried out several attacks. Almost half of Burkina Faso is outside government control, as armed groups have ravaged the country for years. Rebels and terrorists have killed thousands of people and made more than two million people refugees, something that threatens the stability of the nation that suffered two military coups in 2022. President Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso For a decade now, Burkina Faso has been dealing with chaos linked to the terrorist groups al-Qaeda and Daesh/ISIS. French soldiers were in Burkina Faso for more than ten years under the pretext of helping the country fight terrorism. However, the terrorists gained more strength during the presence of French troops in the country. As a result, last year the military government ordered French troops to leave the country immediately. Russia is now helping Burkina Faso in its fight against terrorism and there is hope that terrorist attacks will decrease significantly in the coming months.
