About 160 Palestinian prisoners in critical condition in Israeli jails
At least 700 sick Palestinian detainees are in Israeli jails and 160 of them are in critical condition, according to a prisoner advocacy group. Per Riad al-Ashqar, director of the Palestinian Center for Prisoner Studies (PCPS), a detainee Palestinian, named Musa Sofan, is among 20 prisoners suffering from cancer in Israeli jails, adding that Israeli authorities are offering him the opportunity for proper treatment.
He went on to say that the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) continues to prevent Sofan from being released for treatment after spending 20 years in prison, noting that Israeli prison authorities are denying him the right to "at least die among his relatives instead of die in prison." Ashqar also said another sick Palestinian detainee, Walid Dagga, was taken back to Ramla prison on unsubstantiated allegations of suffering from a strange disease after an Israeli court rejected his release.
