About 300 people died due to the heavy rain that fell in the DRC
About 300 people have died in floods caused by heavy rains in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The information was released yesterday Friday by the Minister of Social Affairs of the large country in central Africa. Minister Modeste Mutinga Mutuishayi gave this information during a meeting to assess the natural crisis and added that approximately 43,750 houses have collapsed. He also warned about the risk of various other health disasters due to the lack of toilets and clean water. The minister has called on the Congolese government to provide immediate funds to help the victims of the floods, while also calling for international solidarity to help the humanitarian aid teams currently operating in the areas affected by the rains. Floods and landslides are common in DRC during the rainy season, which runs from September to May. Natural disasters are common in DRC In May last year, figures released by the Democratic Republic of the Congo said that the number of people who died following the flood and landslides in the east of the country reached 438. The statistics of the flood disaster in DRC also showed that more people were lost and the number of deaths of 438 people is small compared to the actual number of the disaster. In several villages located near the shores of Lake Kivu, people were digging mud by hand in an effort to find their missing relatives. Local media in the DRC reported that in one of the villages in South Kivu, more than three quarters of the houses were washed away, including health centers and schools.
