A helicopter belonging to the Afghan interim government, ruled by the Taliban, has crashed after colliding with a power line.According to local security sources, two pilots died. In early August 2021, the Taliban intensified the offensive against Afghan government forces. On August 15, the rebels entered Kabul and declared an end to the war the next day.

During the last two weeks of the same month, from Kabul airport, controlled by the US military, there was a mass evacuation of citizens of Western countries and Afghans who collaborated with foreign missions.

On the night of August 31, the US military withdrew from Kabul airport, ending a nearly 20-year military presence. As international troops withdrew from the country and evacuations concluded, the Taliban announced the composition of their interim government, headed by Mohammad Hasan Akhund, former foreign minister during the previous Taliban government, which is sanctioned by the United Nations since 2001
