A group of young Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem has called for Thursday and Friday to be designated as "Palestinian Flag Day" at home and abroad.

The Jerusalem Popular Youth Movement, in a brief statement, urged the Palestinian masses in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied territories, and throughout the world, to raise Palestinian flags in the streets and at every border point they can reach.

This Palestinian step was taken after groups of Jewish settlers announced their intention to invade al-Aqsa mosque and surrounding areas en masse on Thursday as part of what they are calling the "Jerusalem Day Banner March." .

Recently, an extremist group from the “Temple Mount” (the organization “Returning to the Mount”) filed an official request with the Israeli police asking for permission to allow Jews to enter al-Aqsa mosque en masse carrying Israeli flags , Thursday 18 May.

According to Jewish media, the Israeli flag march will take place along its traditional route, which passes through the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City. However, several Jewish groups incited their followers to gather at the entrances of the al-Aqsa mosque and try to storm its courtyards during the flag march. Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and other far-right ministers and lawmakers are expected to take part in the settlers' march. Previous flag marches have seen several settlers act defiantly and violently against Palestinian citizens, attacking homes and shops and chanting racial and blasphemous slurs in the holy city.
