The US has sent additional troops to Syria under the pretext of a growing threat to the country's military forces stationed in Syria.
According to Pat Ryder, a spokesman for the US Department of Defense, said on Monday that the number of US troops deployed in Syria has changed in recent years depending on the needs of the mission as threats to American soldiers have increased.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon), 900 U.S. soldiers are permanently deployed to Syria, and 1,100 soldiers are temporarily deployed to Syria to support military protection, transportation, maintenance, or other operational needs.
As President-elect Donald Trump begins his second term next month, he will face increasingly pressing questions about the future of the 2,000 American troops stationed in eastern Syria.
Trump, who repeatedly threatened to withdraw US troops from Syria during his first term and in recent days has sought to keep the US out of the current unrest in Syria, has not revealed his intentions for the US military mission in West Asia.
