The African Union (AU) has said that it is worried about Senegal's move to postpone the country's presidential election.

 In his statement, the Chairman of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has called on the Senegalese government to conduct the election in peace, transparency and in accordance with national consensus. President Macky Sall of Senegal announced the other day that the country's presidential election scheduled for February 25 will be postponed following the tension that emerged regarding the list of candidates. The non-holding of the election as it had been previously planned has caused alarm from the opposition wing in Senegal which has accused President Sall of wanting to extend his period of remaining in power indefinitely. The President of Senegal has announced the postponement of the presidential election in the country after the country's Constitutional Council removed from the list of candidates for the presidency some representatives of the opposition parties. Karim Wade, the son of the former president of Senegal, and a prominent opponent of the current government of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko are among the persons removed from the list of candidates for the presidency. Senegal's famous opponent, Ousmane Sonko Supporters of the opposition parties yesterday Sunday held a large protest to condemn the decision of the President of Senegal to postpone the presidential election. Today, Monday, the Senegalese parliamentarians expected to discuss the move to postpone the presidential election for a period of six months.
