Bernie Sanders noted Thursday morning that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to violate international laws in the Gaza war and is not even listening to requests from Washington officials. Sanders explained that next week he will present to the Senate a draft plan designed to hold the US State Department accountable for what is happening in the Gaza Strip. According to Al Jazeera, he continued: “The State Department must provide information that will allow us to determine whether Israel is violating international laws or not. We need to know whether human rights violations occurred in the Gaza Strip using American military assistance." The veteran senator added: “The draft proposal requires the State Department to provide information on measures being taken to reduce the risks of war against civilians in the Gaza Strip, as well as a summary of weapons and ammunition supplied to Israel since October 7.” Earlier, the news site Politico, citing American officials, reported that behind the scenes Washington is trying to reduce tensions and keep American troops from being drawn into the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The news site Politico quoted US officials as saying: "As tensions in the Middle East escalate, the likelihood of attacks inside the United States will increase." “Behind the scenes, Washington is trying to reduce tensions and keep U.S. troops out of the conflict,” U.S. officials told Politico on condition of anonymity. They explained: "The Biden administration considered and supported a plan to withdraw Hezbollah forces from Lebanon's southern border areas, but consideration of this plan was stopped several days ago." The report states: "U.S. intelligence indicates Hezbollah may be targeting U.S. forces or diplomats. U.S. intelligence assessments indicate a growing risk of Hezbollah attacking Americans in the Middle East or inside the United States." Politico writes, citing the aforementioned officials: "The US State Department has increased security at its embassy in Beirut to prevent any attacks on diplomats living in Lebanon. As tensions in the region rise, so does the possibility of an attack on American soil." Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during his visit to occupied Palestine and meeting with officials of the Zionist regime, demanded that the war not spread to Western Asia, including Lebanon and the West Bank.
