Joe Biden expressed confidence that a ceasefire will begin in the Gaza Strip after the Hamas movement releases the hostages (prisoners) it holds. He made the corresponding statement while speaking at a fundraising event for his election campaign in Washington state.
“Tomorrow there will be a ceasefire [in Gaza] if Hamas releases the hostages,” the White House press pool quotes the president as saying at the very beginning of his speech that he wanted to address the situation around Israel.
"I don't think I should get into all this stuff with Israel," he added. Biden then paused as if he was about to continue, but then stopped. “I don’t want to continue [talking about Israel],” the president emphasized and moved on to domestic American topics.
Let us recall that on May 8, Biden said in an interview with CNN that if Israeli troops enter Rafah, Washington will stop supplying some weapons to Tel Aviv. A little later, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that the country was reconsidering the issue of sending short-term military assistance to Israel due to the situation around Rafah.
A temporary humanitarian ceasefire was established in the Gaza Strip at the end of November 2023 for a period of a week, but its violation by the Zionist regime on December 1 led to the escalation of the conflict in this strip.
