US President Joe Biden invited Australian Prime Minister and Anthony Albanese to visit Washington after canceling his trip to Sydney for the Quadruple Security Dialogue (QUAD) summit. Biden issued his invitation during a joint speech at the summit of the G7 in Hiroshima.

Biden and Albanese then also announced the conclusion of an agreement on joint action in the clean energy sector. The next QUAD summit was scheduled for May 23-24 in Sydney, but the American president said he would not be able to attend the meeting in Australia due to the US national debt situation, as he was due to take part in the negotiations on this issue. As a result, the leadership meeting was cancelled. Subsequently, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida decided to cancel his planned visit to Australia. After Biden's visit to Australia was cancelled, the leaders of the US, Japan, India and Australia agreed to hold a QUAD meeting in Hiroshima on Saturday.
