The draft must now be signed by the leaders of the three countries.
Mali's Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop has been quoted by Sputnik News as saying that the countries want to work together.
He added that the declaration that was adopted by the three countries intends to specify that the announcement of withdrawal from ECOWAS, "must be taken more seriously."
In September 2023, the military leaders of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger signed the Protocol of the Sahel States (AES) to create a joint defense system after deteriorating relations with France and the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) following military revolution in those countries.
At the end of January, the countries of the Sahel Protocol announced their withdrawal from ECOWAS, citing the failure of the organization in the fight against terrorism.
