Burkina Faso's military thwarts another coup
Burkina Faso's top military official announced that the country's military had succeeded in thwarting a coup plot against the interim president. At the end of August, Burkina Faso's security minister warned of the presence of foreign parties in this country. He said that the presence of foreign parties in this country would create instability in the transition period and give rise to riots.
As reported by Sputnik, the Burkina Faso government on Wednesday (27/9/2023) released a statement stating that the military coup attempt against the government on September 26 2023 was successfully thwarted by the intelligence and security services, and during this conflict, a number of coup plotters and officers as well as people people associated with the failed coup, which was launched with the aim of creating chaos, were arrested. Still according to this report, a number of sources said that pro-French parties were behind this failed coup.
Ibrahim Traore, who last year ousted the powerful Chairman of the Military Council, Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Damiba who also came to power in a coup, declared himself president of Burkina Faso. Recently, Burkina Faso, in line with the transformation of Niger and the coup in this country against the pro-French government, announced its support for Niger and the Military Council and warned of any form of military intervention in Niamey.
