Chaos has engulfed the South African nation since the end of the election on October 9 last month which gave victory to the ruling Frelimo party that has been in power since 1975 but was condemned by the opposition parties who claim fraud and manipulation of the results.
Reports state that, in the Nampula region which is the center of unrest, the security forces used force to disperse the angry protesters. The police have not said anything about the accusations of using excessive force against the protesters.
Meanwhile, European Union election observers have noted "unreasonable manipulation" of some results in Mozambique's general election, amid accusations by the main opposition candidate that the government killed his lawyer.
The opposition party Podemos has contested the election results which showed that Mozambique's ruling party, Frelimo, which has been in power for half a century since independence, has won.
