Congressional Black Caucus Condemns Marjorie Taylor Greene's Remarks About George Floyd

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has condemned comments made by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., regarding George Floyd. In a video posted on X, Greene accused Democrats of "worshiping" Floyd while discussing former President Donald Trump's recent conviction on hush money charges.

"This is unhinged even for @RepMTG," the CBC wrote on X. "George Floyd did not deserve to die, and a member of Congress should have the decency to acknowledge his humanity."

Greene's comments came after Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., suggested during a congressional hearing that some Republicans "blindly worship" convicted felons, following Trump's conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Addressing Dr. Anthony Fauci during his testimony, Raskin noted that some Republicans treat convicted felons with "love and admiration."

In her video response, Greene rebuked Raskin's comments, stating, "We have Jamie Raskin in there accusing us of worshiping Trump. Worshiping a 'convicted felon'." She continued, "Well yeah, so is George Floyd and everybody — and you all too — the media — worship George Floyd. Democrats worship George Floyd. There were riots burning down the f------ country over George Floyd."

Greene added, "I’m tired of Democrat antics claiming Republicans worship Donald Trump. I worship God! Democrats are still worshiping Convicted Felon George Floyd."

George Floyd, a Black man, died on May 25, 2020, after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds. Chauvin was convicted of murder, and Floyd's death sparked a nationwide movement addressing racism and police violence.

A spokesperson for Greene did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump was convicted on Thursday of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to payments made to his former attorney, Michael Cohen, for reimbursing hush money paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels. Trump has pleaded not guilty and denied Daniels' claims of a sexual encounter. His sentencing is scheduled for July 11.
