Consequences of the Gaza ceasefire for the occupied territories
The army and cabinet of the Zionist regime have faced a difficult situation due to the consequences of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The resignation of the commanders of the Zionist regime's army and the opposition's moves to remove Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from power in recent days have been the primary consequences of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi has said that he has submitted his resignation letter to the Minister of Defense due to his failure to predict and respond to the operations of Palestinian resistance groups on October 7, 2023. However, Halevi will remain in office until March 6. In his resignation letter, Herzi Halevi wrote, "all war goals" of the regime's army have not been achieved.
Yaron Finkelman, commander of the southern sector of the Zionist army, also wrote in his resignation letter: The blow of October 7 will remain in my mind for the rest of my life. Following the military defeat and widespread criticism of the Israeli army's performance in the war on Gaza, Yifat Yerushalmi, the head of the military prosecution and legal affairs of the regime's army who held the rank of Brigadier General, resigned from his post.
Opposition movements to Benjamin Netanyahu's Cabinet have also increased, calling for the resignation of the administration's prime minister and his cabinet members, as well as the creation of a formal investigative committee to investigate the failure of October 7, 2023.
After Halevi announced his resignation, opposition leaders criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu and called for him and his cabinet to resign. Yair Lapid, head of the Zionist regime's opposition movement, wrote on his "X" social media account: "It is time to accept responsibility and the prime minister and the members of his disastrous cabinet should resign together."
Avigdor Lieberman, head of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, also wrote on his "X" social media account that "after the resignation of the army chief, I call on the Prime Minister and members of the security cabinet to accept responsibility and return to their homes."
The Democrats Party, led by Yair Golan, one of the opposition leaders, also said on its "X" social media account that "Netanyahu, it's your turn now."
The Zionist regime, with the support of the United States, launched a fierce war against the residents of the Gaza Strip starting on October 7, 2023, and as a result, in addition to extensive destruction and severe famine, more than 47,000 Palestinians were martyred and more than 110,000 others were injured, most of them women and children.
Finally, after 15 months of brutal war incitement and failure to achieve its goals, namely the release of its captive soldiers through ground warfare, the dismantling of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement (HAMAS), and the elimination of the Gaza Strip's military capability to use missiles, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Government of Qatar announced the success of efforts to stop the fighting in the Gaza Strip between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, and that the implementation of the agreement began on Sunday, January 19 to end more than 15 months of brutal war and genocide by the Zionist army.
The first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Zionist regime will last for 6 weeks. During this phase, the implementation of the agreements in the second and third phases will be discussed. This agreement was reached through the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States and several rounds of talks were held in Cairo and Doha.
Political and military collapse in the occupied territories has been one of the consequences of the ceasefire. Conflict and infighting within the Israeli military also continue, with the Israeli authorities admitting the regime's military's defeat against the Palestinian resistance.
Two major and fundamental events have had an impact following the Gaza ceasefire on the structure of the Zionist regime's military and cabinet. First, the resignations of prominent military commanders of the Zionist regime, reflecting their dissatisfaction with the results of the war and the performance of the cabinet.
Another issue is the deep disagreement between the hard-line Zionists and other members of Netanyahu's cabinet over the continuation of the war in Gaza. The hard-line Zionists support the continuation of the war in Gaza regardless of the consequences, and in this situation it is impossible to continue the activities of the cabinet. As the situation in Tel Aviv worsens, there is a possibility of a political collapse and Netanyahu will be forced to call early elections.
