The United States intends to send a B-52 bomber to South Korea on Wednesday to conduct joint air exercises, Yonhap news agency reported, citing knowledgeable sources. According to them, the bomber, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, will be accompanied by South Korean fighters during its flight over the Republic of Korea. It is noted that the B-52 bomber is returning to South Korea less than a month after its first-ever landing in the country on October 17. In addition, the agency's interlocutors said the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson is expected to dock at the Busan naval base early next week. During annual bilateral security talks on Monday, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin hailed the first B-52 landing in South Korea as a "milestone" in U.S. deterrence efforts and said "another carrier battle group" would arrive soon.
