Detention of over 18,000 refugees at the German border
Last September, more than 18,000 asylum seekers were detained at the German border. According to the Bild news agency, German police identified and arrested 18,251 illegal asylum seekers at its borders last September. The number of illegal asylum seekers at Germany's borders in September 2023 compared to July this year was more than double and 80% more than in August 2023. Since the beginning of 2023, the German police have arrested a total of 73,980 illegal immigrants on the country's borders with Poland, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Denmark. Germany, like other European countries, has been severely pressured by the refugee crisis and is trying to prevent the influx of refugees with stringent policies. Hundreds of thousands of refugees are trying to reach Europe with the aim of freeing themselves from the violence and economic, social and political instability caused by Western intervention in Western Asia and North Africa.
