Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan extended an olive branch to Greece ahead of his visit to Athens. According to Eorunews, in an interview with the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, the President said that Greece and Turkey should strengthen trust and deepen cooperation on common problems while trying to resolve their differences. Erdoğan, who will attend the fifth High Level Cooperation Council (HDIK) meeting in Athens, said in the interview, "There is no problem that we cannot solve through dialogue on the basis of mutual goodwill." While Erdoğan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed the emergence of a new and "positive climate" in relations after more than a year of tensions over energy resources and defense issues, they agreed to restart negotiations and confidence-building measures last July.
