Erdogan's call to reform the UN Security Council
The Turkish President demanded reform of the UN Security Council.
On Friday evening, the United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The resolution, drafted by the UAE and supported by about 100 countries, was supported by 13 of the 15 members of the Security Council. Zionist forces have been attacking the Gaza Strip since October 7 last year, and to date, more than 17,000 Palestinians have been martyred and more than 46,000 injured. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his speech at the World Human Rights Day ceremony in Istanbul on Saturday, while emphasizing the need to reform the UN Security Council, added: "This council has become pro-Israel." Erdogan added that the “butchers of Gaza” must be held accountable for crimes against humanity. The Turkish President said: "Because of the US veto, no decision was made to stop the Israeli army's attacks on the Gaza Strip and to cease fire." On Saturday, Pakistan also responded to the UN Security Council's refusal to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip: "With its warnings of a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the Security Council has failed in its primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security."
