European trio seeks to maintain missile sanctions against Iran
In his statement, the EU foreign policy chief said that Britain, France and Germany told him in a letter that they would not lift missile sanctions against Iran. According to AAA news agency, Josep Borrell added: “Three European countries have expressed concern about Iran’s non-compliance with its obligations under the JCPOA and have referred the issue to the JCPOA Joint Commission under the Dispute Resolution Mechanism (DRM).” He said: “The Foreign Ministers (Troika) have announced that Iran has not acceded to this agreement since 2019, and they believe that this issue has not been resolved through the JCPOA dispute resolution mechanism, so they intend not to take steps related to lifting further sanctions on October 18, 2023.
Borrell, however, said that he would spare no effort to resume full implementation of the JCPOA.Under the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which was adopted about 8 years ago to approve the JCPOA, the restrictions imposed by this organization Iran's ballistic missile-related activities expire in October 2023. Therefore, European countries' actions to maintain missile sanctions are a violation of Resolution 2231 and are seen as a continuation of Western countries' policy of maintaining pressure on Iran through the JCPOA.
