France, Macron's tough stance on foreign immigrants
French President Emmanuel Macron said the government will present a bill ... to reduce immigration after parliament returns from its summer recess. Migration is generally influenced by a combination of economic, environmental, political and social factors, in which "push factors" in the country of origin and "pull factors" in the country of destination play a significant role in its realization. According to Local France's report, Macron said in an interview, Are we overwhelmed by immigrants? NO. It's not fair to say that, but we have to significantly reduce immigration, and for that we have to start with illegal immigration. The French government has an immigration bill that has been delayed several times because it was deemed "too divisive," although Interior Minister Gérald Daronin hopes to reintroduce it in the fall. New immigration restrictions and a sharp rise in anti-immigration rhetoric from conservative politicians come as wars, weather disasters and economic hardship have forced record numbers of refugees and asylum seekers to embark on perilous journeys. According to the U.N. report, some 2.9 million new asylum applications were filed last year; more than any year since at least 2000.
