Sanctions have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan
The International Committee of the Red Cross has announced that economic sanctions... have exacerbated the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. After the withdrawal from Afghanistan at the end of August 2021 and later, after the Taliban came to power in this country with false pretensions, the U.S. has blocked and appropriated about $10 billion of the Afghan people's assets and imposed sanctions on this country, which has worsened the situation of Afghans. According to AP, the International Committee of the Red Cross, in publishing its report on the first six months of this year, said that economic sanctions have worsened the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. This report states that 55 percent of the population Afghanistan is in need of humanitarian aid.
Referring to its activities over the past six months, the International Committee of the Red Cross announced: During this period, basic medical services were provided to 581,548 patients, mostly women and children, in 47 medical centers of the Afghan Red Crescent Society. The report adds that during this period, the Red Cross paid the salaries of 10,900 health department employees and supported 33 hospitals. Meanwhile, the Red Cross recently announced that it will stop supporting 25 hospitals in Afghanistan due to financial constraints. Prior to this, other international organizations had also warned against reducing the amount of financial aid to Afghanistan.
