Gen Z are protesting again today in Kenya to pressure Ruto to resign

Demonstrations by young people of the Gen Z generation in Kenya, which in recent days have shaken the government of President William Ruto, have also taken place today in some of the country's major cities. A number of Kenyan cities such as the capital Nairobi and Mombasa have witnessed the protest with young people carrying placards asking President William Ruto to resign.

In Nairobi, the police had to use tear gas to control the protesters. Businessmen in Nairobi did not open their shops today fearing the damage that has been done to property by protesters while many of the city's bars were closed.

President William Ruto yesterday came up with the Ford Foundation of the United States, associating it with the violence witnessed in the country during the protests against the 2024 Finance Bill and the way the Kenya First administration is running the government.

Demonstrations driven by the youth of the Gen Z generation rocked the East African country on June 25, resulting in the deaths of 42 people while other protesters were kidnapped.

At the same time, religious leaders in Kenya, led by the Council of Imams and Preachers in the country (CIPK) have asked young people in Kenya to stop their protest that is expected to continue today, Tuesday, fearing a deterioration in security.

CIPK says that despite the fact that protest is a constitutional right, participants should be careful to ensure that peace is maintained.
