"Genocide" reaction from UN Palestine Rapporteur Albanese to Western countries

United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Palestine Francesca Albanese said, "There is great discomfort in Western countries about the use of the word genocide. But this is exactly what (the occupation regime) is doing right now."

Albanese spoke at the Maghreb Mashrik Forum held in Tunisia.

Stating that the occupying Zionists' attack on Gaza is "an open challenge to humanitarian and democratic values", Albanese noted that what is currently happening in Gaza cannot be ignored, a tragedy is happening there.

Calling on the international community to take action to stop Israel's attacks, Albanese said, "I can say without hesitation that what happened in Gaza is not a war, but a genocide. There is great discomfort in Western countries about the use of the word genocide. The reason for this is that the word genocide is synonymous with Holocaust." 'How could Israel (Jews) who suffered the Holocaust commit genocide? Such a thing is unthinkable.' But (the occupation regime) is doing exactly that right now." he said.

Albanese emphasized the need to support student movements around the world that take action to stop this oppression and shake systems by taking action on campuses.
