Guterres: Palestinians live 'in hell' under continued Israeli occupation

According to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Palestinians are suffering and living "in hell" under the Israeli regime's continued occupation. Tensions in the occupied West Bank continue to escalate after Israeli settlers set fire to dozens of Palestinian homes and cars.Guterres said yesterday in an interview with Qatar-based television news channel al-Jazeera that he was following with great concern the situation in the city of Huwara, where Palestinian aid workers were killed, hundreds more injured and dozens of homes and cars set on fire. The Palestinian people are suffering greatly and life in Israel's besieged Gaza Strip is in many ways "a life of hell".Guterres explained that there is no alternative to the so-called two-state solution in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Palestinians want the West Bank as part of a future independent Palestinian state with eastern al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital. The Israeli regime, which conquered the territory in 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognized by the international community, calls al-Quds (Jerusalem) its indivisible capital.
