Hamas Declares Ceasefire with Hezbollah a Blow to Netanyahu’s Ambitions
On Tuesday, Netanyahu was forced to accept a ceasefire agreement after a 14-month offensive against Lebanon
Hamas has said that Israel's agreement of a truce with Hezbollah marks the collapse of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's aim to transform West Asia by military might. This declaration comes after a 14-month confrontation between Israel and Lebanon whereby Hezbollah started relentless counterattacks against Israeli forces.
In a statement, Hamas called the agreement a "collapse of Netanyahu's false dreams" of eradicating Hezbollah and changing the power balance in the area. It underlined how Israel's military strategy's general failure explains its incapacity to enforce its requirements under the truce.
With over 3,700 Lebanese dead including hundreds of women and children and about 15,700 injured since October last year, the fighting claimed terrible human costs. Citing its operational success as a main reason in achieving the ceasefire, Hezbollah declared itself ready to counter any future Israeli invasion despite these great losses.
With Hamas characterizing the ceasefire as evidence of the resiliency of resistance organizations against Israeli military operations, Netanyahu's aspirations of eliminating Hezbollah and altering the region seem to have suffered a major blow.
