Hamas has firmly denied Israeli claims that recent airstrikes in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis targeted the group's leaders. The strikes resulted in the deaths of 71 Palestinian refugees and injuries to approximately 300 others. In a statement issued on Saturday, Hamas accused Israel of using these claims to obscure what it describes as crimes against humanity.
Hamas asserts that this is not the first instance of Israel making such claims, stating that these falsehoods aim to conceal the severe impact of the attacks. "The killing of defenseless and innocent Palestinian refugees in al-Mawasi, an area that the Zionist regime claimed was safe for Palestinians to flee to, is a genocide that is not justified by any reason," the statement read. Hamas also condemned the United States, accusing it of being a direct accomplice in the alleged atrocities.
The airstrikes, which took place early Saturday morning, were reported by Israeli Army radio as targeting Mohammed Deif, the Commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades, and Rafi Salama, the Brigade's commander in Khan Yunis. Hamas has categorically denied these claims, labeling them as propaganda intended to mislead the international community.
"Targeting an area with more than 80,000 people who fled their homes is proof that the Zionist regime has deliberately decided to continue to carry out mass extermination against our people," Hamas stated. The group's condemnation of the attacks reflects the broader tensions and ongoing violence in the region, highlighting the significant civilian toll of the conflict.
As the situation in Gaza continues to escalate, the international community watches closely, with increasing calls for a resolution to the longstanding conflict and an end to the cycle of violence affecting countless innocent lives.
