How many thousands of Americans does alcohol kill each year?

The US Surgeon General has warned about the deaths of thousands of Americans due to alcohol consumption. US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy (spokesman and director of operations for the US Public Health Service) warned about the shocking statistics of alcohol-related deaths in American society, saying:

"Alcohol is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, and on average, more than 140,000 people die each year from alcohol use." As Pars Today reports, the American Cancer Society previously stated that alcohol consumption, even in small amounts, can cause six types of cancer.

The US National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, in a shocking report, stated that 100,000 people die of cancer each year due to alcohol consumption, adding: “An analysis of death certificates from previous years showed that alcohol-related deaths in the United States have increased by about 26 percent.”
