American youth are pessimistic and distrustful of the US military. A recent Pew poll found that half of young Americans under 30 are pessimistic and distrustful of the U.S. military, leaving the nation's military facing a recruiting problem. The survey results show that 53 percent of American youth aged 18 to 29 believe that the American military has a negative impact on the current affairs of this country. Thus, the Pew survey was conducted from January 16 to January 21, 2024, according to the report. The website of the American publication Newsweek further reports that the number of young Americans who would never consider serving in the US military has doubled. The U.S. Army has failed to recruit a total of 41,000 new troops in 2023, and the U.S. Department of Defense's deputy for personnel affairs, Ashish Vazirani, called the challenge of recruiting new troops to the country's military "has varied and complex dimensions."
