Humiliate, disrupt or take over

Perhaps in very few periods, as in recent weeks, have there been as much tension and debate between the US and Europe.

On the one hand, the newly elected US president is taking steps to take over Canada and the Danish island of Greenland, and on the other hand, Elon Musk, considered one of the closest people to the next US president, is trying to overthrow the governments of Germany and Britain.

As reported by RT, Musk even went so far as to post a poll on the X social network, asking whether the United States should save the British from their tyrannical government. Musk was referring to Britain's Labour government.

And European leaders, from Germany to Britain and France, have strongly condemned Musk's interference in their internal affairs and his attempt to influence the results of their elections, and some political analysts have also spoken of the Americans' attempt to bring fascism to power in Europe. This is while the Danes have also categorically rejected Trump's demand to buy the island of Greenland.

Given the war of words that has begun on both sides of the Atlantic, it seems that America and Europe are in for a very tense time. The political movement that won the 2024 US presidential election, known as MAGA, wants to overthrow left-wing and even center-right governments in US allies and bring conservatives and the far right to power. The goal of the MAGA movement is not simply to change the governments of US allies, but to bring to power governments that consider the interests of the United States more important than the national interests of their countries.

Donald Trump has openly threatened Europeans with heavy tariffs on European goods imported into the US unless they buy more oil and gas from the US. These tariffs could be very damaging to European producers, especially at a time when Europe is under severe economic pressure due to Covid-19 lockdowns and rising energy prices following the Ukraine war.

Trump and his supporters hope that Europeans will accept and adapt to the difficult conditions of the Americans. But as long as left-wing or center-right governments rule in Europe, this goal will be difficult to achieve. For this reason, the richest man in the world and the owner of the X social network has stepped up to start a propaganda war against these governments and replace them with governments in line with US policies. So far, this approach has worked in the case of Canada, whose Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has resigned. Elon Musk is trying to do the same in Germany and Britain, two countries without whose consent the smaller and weaker countries of Europe will not submit to a Trump-led America.

Of course, it does not seem likely that even with the overthrow of some European governments, European citizens will give in to Donald Trump’s expansionism and Elon Musk’s ideological interventions. Therefore, it is foreseeable that resistance will form in Europe, which will have a devastating effect on the long-standing friendly relations on both sides of the Atlantic. However, the US MAGA movement believes that the United States is politically and economically powerful enough to force Europeans to submit to it, and if this fails, American military power can be considered as a guarantee of US pressure on Europe.

In such conditions, Europe, which until now assumed that it was under threat from Russia, will feel defenseless in the face of the aggressive and self-serving policy of the Americans, a policy that is becoming more aggressive and self-serving every day with the victory of Donald Trump in the 2024 elections.
