Following a meeting in Florida between nationalist Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and former US President Donald Trump, Orban announced his official support for Trump.

According to Reuters, according to a statement from the Trump campaign, at the meeting the parties discussed a wide range of issues that impact Hungary and the United States, including the importance of strong and secure borders to protect each country's sovereignty.

The importance of this meeting stems from the fact that Orban has long been at odds with other EU members on various issues, including their opposition to sending weapons to Ukraine and maintaining economic relations with Moscow since the start of the country's war with Ukraine.

He said that only the return of Donald Trump to the White House could bring peace to Ukraine. Orbán even stated on social network X regarding support for Trump: “We need leaders in the world who are respected and can bring peace. Trump is one of them. Come back and bring us peace, Mr. President!”

Many American conservatives still admired Orban for his tough immigration policies and outspoken stance on national sovereignty. In a Facebook video post, he said there was peace in West Asia and Ukraine during Trump's presidency. Trump also wrote about Orban in a social media post that "Victor is a great leader who is respected around the world."

Trump called Hungary a safe country because of its strict immigration policies and said that as long as he (Orban) is in power, the situation in Hungary will be the same. At the same time, Orbán's anti-immigration campaigns have always been criticized by the European Union, and EU countries believe that his actions in this area, as well as his control over the judiciary, non-governmental organizations and government-controlled media, have destroyed democracy in Hungary. Orban has repeatedly criticized European Union sanctions against the Russian Federation due to the war in Ukraine and expressed his disagreement with sending aid to Ukraine.
