Imam Khamenei performs funeral prayer for Martyr Raeisi, his companions

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has led prayers over the bodies of President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi and his companions in Tehran as millions of people gathered to hold funeral procession.

Imam Khamenei, attended the University of Tehran today (May 22) and, amidst a massive crowd of mourners, led the funeral prayer for the ‘Martyrs of Service’, Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, the late President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister, Hojjat ol-Islam Seyyed Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem,  Representative of the Leader in East Azarbaijan Province, Malek Rahmati, the Governor of East Azarbaijan Province, Seyyed Mahdi Mousavi, the head of president’s security team, Captain Seyyed Taher Mostafavi, Behrouz Qadimi, and Captain Mohsen Daryanush, the flight crew.

After the funeral prayer, the bodies of martyrs were carried by the Iranian people from the University of Tehran to Tehran’s iconic Azadi Square.

President Raeisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian and their accompanying delegation visited East Azarbaijan province yesterday (May 19) to inaugurate and operationalize the Qiz Qalasi Dam project and complete and expand the Khoda Afarin Dam, jointly implemented between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

After this ceremony, the helicopter carrying the president, foreign minister and accompanying delegation crashed due to bad weather conditions in the Varzaqan region on the way back, and all passengers were martyred.
