Isolation of America according to the former President of Ireland
Ireland's first female president and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said US President Joe Biden's support for Israel has led America to greater isolation and loss of self-respect.
Mary Robinson added: “President Biden's support for Israel's indiscriminate bombing of the Gaza Strip has diminished respect for him around the world, and allies such as Australia, Canada, India, Japan and Poland have changed their positions in the UN General Assembly and now support immediate humanitarian ceasefire." In reaction to the recent Security Council decision, she explained: “Even if this resolution is approved, sufficient action will not be taken.” The former Irish President continued: “UN Security Council Resolution 2712, which was agreed last month, was not fully implemented because, according to the resolution, civilian lives were to be protected, all prisoners had to be released, and humanitarian aid had to be delivered to Gaza Strip as soon as possible." Robinson stressed: “Only a ceasefire will allow us to do all this.” The former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights added: “The only factor that led to the release of the Israeli hostages was negotiations. While Israeli military actions actually led to the death of several Israeli hostages and thousands of Palestinian civilians.” She recalled: “The destruction of Gaza will reduce Israel's security, and Biden's continued support for Israel's actions will also weaken global security. It's time to stop systematic killing."
