Colorado Supreme Court Disqualifies Trump from Participating in 2024 Presidential Election
The Colorado Supreme Court disqualified former US President Donald Trump for violating the US Constitution and barred him from participating in the 2024 US presidential election.
According to NBC, the Colorado Supreme Court on Tuesday (19/12/2023) issued a controversial decision by announcing that Trump's candidacy for next year's (2024) presidential election was prohibited because it violated the Constitution. US The Colorado Supreme Court ruling touches on Trump's role in the riots at the US Congress building on January 6, 2021. The Colorado court ruling stated that the majority of the court (4 of the 7 justices) believed that Trump was disqualified from the office of president under the 3rd clause of the 14th amendment to the United States Constitution. Previously, similar lawsuits were filed in the US states of Arizona, Michigan and Minnesota to disqualify Trump, and the Supreme Courts in all these states rejected the lawsuits. Steven Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesman, said in a statement that an appeal would be filed against the decision. Cheung pointed out that Democratic Party leaders are in a state of anxiety, due to Trump's lead in the polls, and they will do everything to prevent him from being kicked out of the White House based on the votes of American voters in November 2024. A Trump campaign spokesman called the Colorado Supreme Court's decision completely flawed and added, "We will immediately petition the United States Supreme Court to stop this undemocratic decision." Currently, similar cases regarding Trump's disqualification are being considered in 13 other US states, including Texas, Nevada and Wisconsin.(PH)
