In a bold and controversial move, the Israeli army successfully infiltrated the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip by disguising special forces within a humanitarian aid truck. This operation led to the release of four Israeli captives but has sparked significant outrage and concern among Palestinian circles and international observers.
According to reports from Palestinian sources, the Israeli forces used a closed transport truck alongside a civilian vehicle to penetrate the camp. These trucks, typically used to deliver humanitarian aid amidst the ongoing conflict, were repurposed for the military operation. Witnesses reported the sudden appearance of military vehicles in the eastern and northwestern areas of Nuseirat, accompanied by heavy shelling and gunfire that targeted extensive parts of the camp.
The infiltration and subsequent assault resulted in significant casualties. At least 210 Palestinians were killed, and over 400 were injured in the airstrikes that hit Nuseirat, as well as the eastern regions of Deir al-Balah and the al-Bureij and al-Maghazi camps. The Israeli military's aggressive actions continued despite a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the besieged territory.
The ongoing conflict, now in its eighth month, has devastated Gaza. More than 36,700 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives, with over 83,500 others injured. The extensive destruction has left much of Gaza in ruins, and the blockade has severely restricted the delivery of essential supplies, including food, clean water, and medicine.
The international community has responded with condemnation and legal actions. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) recently ruled against Israel, ordering an immediate halt to its military operations in southern Gaza, particularly in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians sought refuge from the violence.
Despite these calls for peace, the Israeli military continues its operations. In a recent airstrike on Deir al-Balah, at least 15 Palestinians were killed, including several near a hospital. The ongoing bombardment of various locations, including the Nuseirat camp, has contributed to the rising death toll, which now stands at 36,801, with 246 days of continuous conflict.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that in the last 24 hours alone, five separate attacks have resulted in 70 deaths and 150 injuries. Meanwhile, fierce clashes persist between Palestinian resistance fighters and Israeli soldiers across Gaza, with the Ezzeddin Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claiming to have inflicted casualties on Israeli forces in the east of Rafah.
As the humanitarian crisis deepens, the international community continues to call for an end to the violence and for the protection of civilian lives in Gaza.
