Istanbul witnessed tensions again on May 1
There was tension in Saraçhane due to May 1. May 1 witnessed tension in Istanbul. The unions and political parties gathered in Saraçhane under the leadership of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DİSK) wanted to march to Taksim Square. Making a statement in the field, Republican People's Party Chairman Özgür Özel reminded the Constitutional Court's Taksim decision. The police intervened with pepper gas and rubber bullets against those who wanted to march towards Taksim Square. While some police officers were slightly injured in the melee, some citizens fell ill due to pepper spray. After the unions ended the action, the groups left Saraçhane. A total of 210 people were detained and 28 police officers were injured.
