Lavrov appeals to Fidan over Ukrainian military's attempted attack on Turkish Stream

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov informed his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan by phone about the attempted attack by Ukrainian armed forces on the TurkStream gas pipeline, the Russian Foreign Ministry's press service reported.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian armed forces attempted to attack the TurkStream compressor station in the settlement of Haykadzor (Krasnodar Territory) in order to stop gas supplies to Europe.

"The Minister convincingly asked his Turkish counterpart to use Ankara's capabilities in working with Kiev to prevent similar attempts by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks against civilian infrastructure," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. According to the ministry, Fidan assured that the necessary measures will be taken.

As a follow-up to the Russian-Turkish talks held in Ankara on February 24, the ministers reaffirmed the importance of further coordinated work between Russia and Turkey in the interests of maintaining peace, stability and security in the region, based on the agreements reached by Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Erdogan.
