Elon Musk supports US withdrawal from UN & NATO

Billionaire Elon Musk has publicly announced his support for the idea of the United States withdrawing from the United Nations and the Western military alliance NATO.

Responding to a social media post defending the move on Sunday, Musk, who heads the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), said, "I agree."

US President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers have vowed to review Washington's membership in the United Nations, as well as in the US-led NATO military alliance.

In February, Senator Mike Lee of Utah introduced the Defensive Disengagement and United Nations Funding Act (DEFUND), proposing a complete withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations.

Lee criticized the United Nations and called it a "tyrant's forum" that undermines the United States and its allies, saying that despite heavy funding from Washington, the organization has failed to prevent wars, genocide, human rights violations and disasters.

Referring to Senator Lee's remarks, Musk wrote on X's website that, "The United States provides significant funding to the UN and its affiliated institutions."

The billionaire's stance is in line with Trump's, who has repeatedly criticized NATO, calling on members of the alliance to increase defense budgets, and threatening to withdraw, saying the United States bears an unfair financial burden on European security.
