Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, tasked with forming a new government, emphasized the urgent need for Israel to withdraw from all Lebanese territory and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Speaking after a tripartite meeting with President Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Salam underscored the necessity of Israel's complete withdrawal from the remaining occupied areas of Lebanon.
"We must make Israel accept a complete withdrawal from the last inch of our occupied territory and work to strengthen the authority of the Lebanese state, as stipulated in the Tayf Agreement," Salam stated. The Prime Minister further outlined his vision for a new era of development, built on justice, security, and economic reform, aimed at tackling the ongoing economic crisis and the aftermath of Israeli attacks.
In his remarks, Salam stressed the importance of preparing a comprehensive plan to rebuild Lebanon's economy and achieve inclusive, sustainable growth. Meanwhile, President Joseph Aoun also highlighted the need for urgent action, stating that time could not afford to be wasted in the formation of a new government. "If any segment of the Lebanese people fails, everyone will fail," Aoun warned, emphasizing that the formation of a government should be driven by the general interest and the democratic process.
Both leaders echoed a commitment to ensuring that the formation of the new government moves forward without any hindrances, as Lebanon navigates a critical moment in its history.
