Lebanon Charges Israel with War Crimes Aiming at the Medical Field
By focusing on healthcare professionals and facilities, Lebanon's Ministry of Health charges Israel with "a series of war crimes". The claim followed Israeli strikes in the southern area killing five healthcare professionals and the director of a hospital in northeast Lebanon. The bombings were denounced by Lebanese officials as purposeful violations of international humanitarian rules.
Since October 2023, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has recorded 226 deaths among patients and medical professionals in Lebanon. The attacks have seriously hampered the nation's capacity to deliver treatment by damaging hospitals and medical facilities widely. Many of these events happened in places already experiencing acute personnel and supply shortages in the medical field.
Israeli strikes in Lebanon have apparently killed 3,645 individuals and injured 15,355 others since the beginning of the war in Gaza. Homes, schools, roads, and hospitals among other civilian infrastructure has also suffered greatly. Lebanese officials characterize the continuous strikes as a methodical assault on civilian life and basic services.
Confirmed by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Israeli operations have seriously disrupted civilian infrastructure. UN forces have recorded the damage of important infrastructure serving daily needs for people. To save Lebanon's already fragile population, they demanded an instant stop of hostilities.
