Macky Sall, who did not run for the presidency of Senegal again, said that no candidate or political group should declare victory, but the polling stations will announce the final results. 17 presidential candidates competed in yesterday's presidential election to succeed Sall.

More than 7 million Senegalese citizens registered as voters in this year's presidential election, which was delayed for a month following the tensions that emerged.

In early February, Sall announced the postponement of the election scheduled for February 25, but the country's Constitutional Council ordered the election to be held before Macky Sall left office on April 2 this year.

This is in a situation where the supporters of the Senegalese presidential candidate, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, have flocked to the streets of the country's capital, Dakar, to celebrate the victory of their candidate, while the preliminary results of yesterday's election on Sunday show that the candidate of the opposition camp is leading.

The celebrations have been held while at least five of the 19 candidates in the race have issued statements congratulating Faye for what they called her victory in the election.

But his main opponent from the ruling coalition, who is also the former Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, has said that the celebrations were held before his time.
