The lives of millions of civilians in Afghanistan are at risk due to severe food shortages and a lack of equipment to cope with the extreme cold.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has expressed its alarm over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, where millions of families face the heartbreaking decision of choosing between feeding their children or keeping them warm during the bitter winter. The agency has issued an urgent appeal for international support to address the escalating crisis.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has expressed its deep concern over the economic and humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. In a statement shared on social media on Tuesday, the agency highlighted the dire struggles of Afghan families, noting that many are forced to choose between food and spending money on heating to survive.

The WFP has stressed that $718 million is needed to provide critical assistance to those in need over the next six months. According to the agency's assessment, five million Afghans are facing severe food insecurity and are unsure where their next meal will come from.

Ironically, one million of these people live in remote and hard-to-reach areas, including Badakhshan, Ghor, Bamyan, and Daikundi, where severe weather conditions exacerbate relief challenges.
